A shocking multiple-murder case has emerged from Bengaluru, where a 52-year-old cab driver has been arrested for allegedly murdering his wife and six members of her family over a prolonged domestic dispute. The accused reportedly believed that his wife’s relatives were interfering in his personal and married life.
The accused, identified as Indushekar alias Shekhar, lived with his wife Sunitha in Rajajinagar, Bengaluru. The couple had been married for nearly 20 years and allegedly experienced frequent disagreements. Police suspect that the accused became increasingly resentful of his wife’s close relationship with her mother and brothers, who had repeatedly intervened in their marital disputes.
According to preliminary police investigations, Sunitha was allegedly the first victim. The accused is suspected of attacking her with a grinding stone before wrapping her body and disposing of it near Nandi Hills in Chikkaballapur district. He reportedly switched off her mobile phone and told neighbours that she had gone on a trip with friends to avoid raising suspicion.
Police investigations suggest that the accused subsequently targeted six other members of his wife’s family. They included his mother-in-law Rupavathi, brothers-in-law Shivakumar and Shankar, their wives Nalini and Divya, and seven-year-old Puneeth, the son of Shivakumar.
Investigators said the accused allegedly called the family members to his house individually, with his brothers-in-law reportedly invited under the pretext of a gathering. He is suspected of using the same grinding stone in the killings.
After the alleged murders, the accused reportedly cleaned the house using chemicals to remove bloodstains. Police have seized the grinding stone and the car suspected to have been used to transport the bodies.
The case came to light after Nalini’s mother approached the Sriramapura police and filed a missing-person complaint. During the investigation into the disappearance of several family members, police grew suspicious of Indushekar. Following questioning, his alleged involvement in the murders came to light.
Police subsequently took the accused to the Nandi Hills area, where a search operation was launched. The body of seven-year-old Puneeth has been recovered, while efforts are underway to locate the remaining six victims.
Karnataka Police Commissioner Seemanth Kumar Singh said the accused claimed that the killings had taken place over a period of 15 to 20 days. However, investigators are still verifying the timeline and details provided by him. Police are also examining his claim that his minor daughter helped him dispose of a body.
A special police team has been formed to investigate the case, trace the remaining bodies and establish the complete sequence of events. The investigation is ongoing.
