Colombo, December 9: Sri Lanka is set to host the 37th session of the Asia Pacific Regional Conference (APRC) of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) in February 2024. This important gathering will bring together agriculture and agriculture ministers. High officials from 46 member states in the Asia Pacific region will join in discussing challenges and priorities related to food and agriculture. The aim is to promote regional coherence and cooperation, Xinhua news agency said, citing FAO statements.
Sri Lankan Agriculture Minister Mahinda Amaraweera highlighted the importance of the conference, saying it would serve as an important platform for regional cooperation. He emphasized that this cooperation will not only benefit Sri Lanka’s agricultural landscape, fisheries sector and environment but will also contribute to the development of the participating member countries.
FAO said that by hosting this event, Sri Lanka underlines its commitment to sustainable agriculture not only within its borders but throughout the region. The conference is seen as a demonstration of Sri Lanka’s dedication to being a valued partner in sustainable agricultural development, demonstrating its role in contributing to the development of sustainable practices in the Asia Pacific region.
