Harichand Jat, better known as Hari Boxer, an alleged key operative of the Lawrence Bishnoi gang, has been detained by US authorities in California. The detention reportedly took place following intelligence inputs shared by the Delhi Police Special Cell and Haryana Special Task Force (STF).
Indian security agencies had been tracking Boxer’s movements for some time, particularly following his alleged involvement in threats against Bollywood personalities and several firing incidents. Authorities are expected to initiate legal proceedings to bring him back to India, with the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) likely to coordinate with US agencies.
Who is Hari Boxer?
Originally from Bamsur in Rajasthan’s Kotputli-Behror district, Hari Boxer is accused of playing a significant role in operating the Lawrence Bishnoi gang’s extortion network from overseas.
He reportedly earned the nickname ‘Boxer’ after learning the sport in Jaipur. Before entering the criminal world, he worked as a boxing coach and was preparing for competitive examinations. He later allegedly became involved in organised crime, with multiple cases registered against him in Rajasthan, Delhi, Punjab and Haryana, including murder, attempted murder, assault and extortion.
Boxer reportedly fled India in 2022 and continued operating criminal activities from abroad.
Links to threats against Bollywood celebrities
Boxer’s name has surfaced in several cases involving threats and extortion demands targeting Bollywood personalities, including Salman Khan, Kapil Sharma, Rohit Shetty, Ranveer Singh and Tusshar Kapoor.
He was allegedly linked to the firing incident at comedian Kapil Sharma’s cafe, Kap’s Cafe, in Surrey, Canada. He also claimed responsibility for the firing outside filmmaker Rohit Shetty’s residence in Mumbai in February 2026.
Following the incident, threatening social media posts and audio messages allegedly linked to Boxer targeted several Bollywood personalities. In another case, a threatening voice message sent to Ranveer Singh’s manager reportedly carried an extortion demand of Rs 20 crore.
Connection to recent firing incidents
Investigators have also reportedly linked Boxer to a network suspected of supplying weapons in connection with the firing incident targeting actor Tiger Shroff.
According to Delhi Police, Boxer was associated with the Randeep Malik gang, whose network allegedly used encrypted communication channels and social media to coordinate criminal activities.
He is also facing investigations into extortion demands and threats against businessmen.
India likely to seek his return
Boxer’s detention in the United States is being viewed as a significant development in India’s efforts to crack down on organised criminal networks operating from overseas.
Indian agencies are expected to work through the CBI and coordinate with US authorities to initiate the process of bringing him back to India. However, further details about the detention and the possible extradition timeline are awaited.
His detention comes shortly after two other gangsters, Himanshu Bhau and Neeraj Faridpuria, were arrested in the United States in connection with multiple criminal cases in India.
