Oklahoma Governor Kevin Stitt tests COVID-19 positive

Washington, July 16 (UITV/IANS)- Kevin Stitt, the Governor of the US state of Oklahoma, said that he has tested positive for novel coronavirus, becoming the first Governor to publicly confirm the infection since the pandemic hit the country.

"I got tested yesterday for COVID-19 and the results came back positive," Stitt said on Wednesday.

"I feel fine; I felt a little bit achy yesterday."

The Republican Governor said he was isolating himself from other family members and working from home, reports Xinhua news agency.

Panaji, July 16 (UITV/IANS)- Goa Governor Satya Pal Malik has expressed concern about the negative and incorrect coverage of the state government's handling of the COVID-19 pandemic in the mainstream and social media, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant said on Thursday.

Sawant was speaking to reporters after a review meeting chaired by the Governor at the Raj Bhavan, which was attended by Sawant, Health Minister Vishwajit Rane, Chief Secretary Parimal Rai and Health Secretary Nila Mohanan.

21 dead, 31 missing in Indonesia flash floods

Jakarta, July 16 (UITV/IANS)- At least 21 people have been killed and 31 others reported missing due to the flash floods and landslides in Indonesia's South Sulawesi province, an official said.

The search and rescue efforts were intensified in the flash flood-stricken district of Luwu Utara on Wednesday, involving 539 rescuers, the official told Xinhua news agency.

"Today five bodies were retrieved by the rescuers, bringing the total number of casualties to 21," he said on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, 10 people are still under medical treatment in a hospital, he said.

155 companies of indian origin have over $22 bn investments in US: Report

New Delhi, June 17 (UITV/IANS) A total of 155 companies with origins in India are responsible for generating over $22 billion in investments and nearly 1.25 lakh jobs in the US, according to a report by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII).

The report titled 'Indian Roots, American Soil 2020' showed that the states with the top concentrations of Indian companies reporting were New Jersey, Texas, California, New York, Illinois and Georgia.

The corporate social responsibility (CSR) and research and development expenditure of the companies stood at $175 million and $900 million, respectively.

Texas, California, New Jersey, New York, and Florida are home to the greatest number of workers in the US directly employed by the reporting Indian companies.

The surveyed companies disclosed the highest amounts of foreign direct investment (FDI) were in Texas, New Jersey, New York, Florida, and Massachusetts.

Indian investments in 20 US states stand at over $100 million each, showed the survey.

Sushant's 'girlfriend' Rhea Chakraborty requests Amit Shah for CBI probe

Mumbai, July 16 (UITV/IANS)- Sushant Singh Rajput's "girlfriend" Rhea Chakraborty has requested Home Minister Amit Shah for a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) enquiry into the late actors death.

Rhea took to Instagram on Thursday afternoon to introduce herself to the Home Minister as the late actor's "girlfriend" while demanding a CBI investigation. Sushant was found hanging at his residence on June 14 and postmortem report has stated he committed suicide.

Top tech companies Google, Facebook join lawsuit against student visa restrictions

San Francisco, July 14 (UiTV/IANS) - Google, Facebook, Microsoft and other tech firms have joined the lawsuit filed by Harvard University and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) last week to block Donald Trump administration's decision to ban foreign students taking only online courses.

In a joint brief, the tech companies including PayPal said the student visa restrictions will "inflict significant harm" their businesses, reports The Hill.

High-profile Twitter accounts hacked in huge Bitcoin scam

San Francisco, July 16 (UITV/IANS)- The Twitter accounts of major public figures including US Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden, Barack Obama, Elon Musk, Bill Gates, Jeff Bezos, Apple and Uber were simultaneously hacked by attackers to spread a cryptocurrency scam, the media reported.

Hijacked accounts posted scam tweets soliciting bitcoin transfers from followers. According to reports, the hackers have "so far succeeded in getting over $50,000 in Bitcoin transfers".

Some of the accounts were quickly back under their owners' control and the tweets sent out when those accounts were compromised were quickly deleted.
