United States and Iran completed prisoner swap

Washington, Dec 8 (UITV/IANS)- The United States and Iran completed a prisoner swap on Saturday, freeing one scholar from each country.

Xiyue Wang, a US scholar who had been in Iranian custody since August 2016, and Iranian scholar Massoud Soleimani held by the United States for more than one year, were released, Xinhua news agency reported.

"After more than three years of being held prisoner in Iran, Xiyue Wang is returning to the United States," the White House issued a statement Saturday morning on behalf of US President Donald Trump.

Ram Nath Kovind and Narendra Modi others condole deaths in Delhi blaze

New Delhi, Dec 8 (UITV/IANS)- President Ram Nath Kovind and Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday expressed their condolences over the tragic fire in a factory in Delhi's Rani Jhansi area in which 43 people lost their lives.

Both the heads of the country took Twitter to send their messages and prayers for the recovery of those suffered injuries.

"Extremely sad to hear the tragic news about fire in Delhi's Anaj Mandi. My thoughts and prayers are with affected families. Wishing for an early recovery to those injured. The local authorities are doing their best to rescue people and provide help," the President tweeted.

Colombo, Dec 8 (UITV/IANS)- Sri Lankan Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa said that his government will firmly support and accelerate the development of the Colombo Port City project constructed by China to ensure that it will emerge as a new business hub in the island country.

Rajapaksa visited the Colombo Port City along with Chinese Ambassador to Sri Lanka and other government ministers to officially declare the 269 hectares of land reclaimed from the sea for the project as part of the Colombo district, Xinhua news agency reported on Saturday.

Washington, Nov 17 (UITV/IANS)- Sunanda Vashisht, a Kashmiri Hindu who put up a strong defence of India's move on Kashmir at a US Congressional hearing on Thursday, has said that she knew she was putting herself "in front of a firing squad" when she agreed to testify "but retreat has never been an option".

In a series of tweets thanking people for the massive support she received for her spirited defence of the Indian government's move to abrogate Article 370, Vashisht said that when people around her realised that she was going to testify in the "one-sided India bashing fest", they told her she had "chosen voluntary suicide".

Vashisht, a writer and political commentator who testified at the Tom Lantos Human Rights Commission, tweeted with the hashtag #congresshearing. Here's what she said in tweets:

Los Angeles, Dec 8 (UITV/IANS)- Actor Peter Sarsgaard has joined the cast of "The Batman" in a mystery role.

Director Matt Reeves took to Twitter on Friday to announce his latest casting coup, prompting fans to speculate he might be the new District Attorney Harvey Dent, who becomes the villain Two-Face, reports aceshowbiz.com.

The character has previously been played on the big screen by Tommy Lee Jones and Aaron Eckhart.

Ironically, Sarsgaard's wife Maggie Gyllenhaal starred in Christopher Nolan's "The Dark Knight" as Assistant District Attorney Rachel Dawes, who romanced Eckhart's Harvey Dent.
